Welcone to the BYC!! Poor baby.... sounds like you're doing everything right though! I would add, that some Poultry Drench added to his water may be a good idea as it contains plenty of electrolytes to help him stay hydrated. Also, adding some nutritional/brewer's yeast in the starter would be a good idea as well. (Water fowl need Niacin to grow properly.. nutritional/brewer's yeast is a good niacin supplement!)

However much brewers yeast should I be giving him? And will I need to get a niacin supplement or will the yeast work fine? Also I found this for the pultry drench, this is all I could find will it be ok?

He will need a bowl of water he can dunk his head on to keep his nares and eyes clean at all times
To keep him from trying ti swim in it and get cold I use butter containers and cut the lid so his head and neck can get in but he can’t put his body in
I also start bathing mine at day 3
Warm water where it’s deep enough he can stand up but enough he can also swim. Do this for 5-10 mins then dry him with a paper towel as it absorbs most of the water. He will then start to preen and use his oil gland. I have had many babies and never had a problem doing it this way but never leave them unattended in the tub
After drying him with the paper towel put him by the heat source and let him do his thing. I have never not had a baby start to preen on their own. It’s natural to them
Make sure that the heat source is not on the full brooder as they need to be able to escape heat as well if needed
Here is a picture of my waters. I also put the small water in there when they are under a week but always make sure they have the bigger one
I can use puppy pads for up to first 2 weeks until they start trying to eat them. Then I switch to shavings

Every thing you said about bathing I did and he is “grooming” himself t. he had his first little “swim” today (it was in a small takeaway container) with warm water since we think he is 3-4 days old from estimation. I will deferently have to try the butter container trick since all he wants to do is sit in his water bowl and I don’t want him to get hypothermia!

My little ones loved their bath time
I would do it 1-2 times a day just to give them something to do
At day 5 ish if you make the water a little deeper but still where he can stand he will do the underwater swimming. Some call it the zombie swim. It’s the cutest thing ever to watch

– The most important thing to remember with ducklings is that they must be raised with the intention of releasing them into the wild. The biggest hurdle towards this is that they imprint very quickly, so even though they are adorable (!), please handle them as little as possible

Orphaned Ducklings​

It is always best to reunite ducklings with their families wherever possible. If you find a duckling completely alone, please place them in a ventilated cardboard box, ideally with a towel at the bottom. Place the box in a warm, dark, quiet area while you transport them to the nearest vet or wait for a rescuer to arrive. Please do not hold the duckling and keep the duckling away from all people and pets. Native species see humans as predators and ducklings can die if subjected to excessive stress.

Please don't ignore the advice to surrender this duckling. You can do so by contacting your nearest vet or wildlife carer office. It is illegal to keep native wildlife without the correct permits. I'm sorry, I know ducklings are so cute and easy to love, but that's what domestic ducks are for. This little guy needs to be rehabilitated to return to the wild and do his part when he grows up
