Hello! I have been thinking of chickens since I was a kid and now, at 45, I am gonna go for it!
I think I will start with a few Brahma hens and see how things work out. My hub, Russ, is building a coop on wheels for me. I do worry about raccoons more than anything as they live in the abandoned barn next door. We have a soybean field behind our house and you can hear the coyotes at night and I have seen them out even during the day. They have come in really close the last few weeks. So a secure coop is what we are striving for. That will be done before the chicks. I need to get my wade pool and shavings for the new arrivals too!! My blue heeler, Jack, will love it!
I would say we should be ready in like 3-5 months?
I still have much more to learn and I am learning here on this website! What a great place! I cannot believe there is such a place for planning etc!!!!!! Here I was going to invest in a magazine subscription that we couldn't afford!! This is great! I will keep you posted with questions!
