This is obviously respiratory … any suggestions? I do NOT have a vet near me. This hen in about 2 years old. I have quarantined her from the rest of the flock. I have given her calcium, a 1/2 a capsule of fish biotic. She has electrolyte water and I scrambled her some egg. She has been drinking a lot, but hardly eaten at all 😟.
I can’t attach the video I took of her. Does anyone know how to do that?
She is breathing hard and you can heard her morning. She has a phlegm buildup on each side of her beak.

Videos can be uploaded to YouTube or a similar site with a link posted here. Do you see any swelling of the eyelids or face, or any bubbles or foam in either eye? Have you added any new birds recently? What is the fish antibiotic? Is there a bad odor from her face?

Her eyes are normal. Nothing coming from them. She has a slight amount of white buildup on either side of her beak. No new birds. She doesn’t have a bad small. But she really sounds like she is suffering. It sounds like a belabored moan 😣

This is the fish biotic. I heard about it here over a decade ago. I break the capsule open and mix the powder with several drops of coconut oil. I form the mixture into two pills and keep them in the freezer. It has been a good source of antibiotic for my chickens.

Amoxicillin is good for many skin, wound, or intestinal infections, but since MG (mycoplasma gallisepticum) does not have a cell wall, it won’t work to treat that. MG is just one kind of respiratory disease. It is treated with Tylosin, TiaGard, or a few others. Some are caused by viruses or molds, and no antibiotic treats those. A virus usually lasts a few weeks. Have any other birds shown the same symptoms? Do you have any pictures of her face or eyes or mucus? Is her crop emptying by early morning before she eats or drinks? Is she rattly when she breathes?

Surprisingly, she was still alive in the morning … even after I was so worried about the way she sounded last night. We could hear the sounds she was making in the cage in the laundry room next to us. Today, dhe has not eaten any of the scrambled eggs I had given her. I have electrolyte water for her and gave her the fish-mox this morning. She is not breathing the way she was yesterday and isn’t making that dreadful noise either. She isn’t acting like she was yesterday 🤷

Ok … so this hen is back out with the ladies, but today I noticed that she has some tan colored buildup around her beak. That does sour crop look like? Could she has something going on in her throat or her crop?

This hen has rallied back! She is acting normal, but she still has this tan discharge on the sides of her beak and she seems to have it in her mouth. Could this be a crop issue? Her breath doesn’t really smell, but it doesn’t look normal.
