My bantam cochin started making honking sounds today. She's still eating and drinking, but seemed to follow me in the pen a bit more, making these weird sounds. I think she may have laid an egg today, the first one in several months.

I brought her in for a cuddle and noticed she was a bit raspy, but no eye or nose drainage. Eyes are normal and bright. She sat with me and was very alert, watching everything around her.

I have Vet RX and gave her some in warm water twice today. And brought her into my sunroom in an extra hutch. I wanted to keep her separate from the other hens and also warm - temps will fall into the 20's tonight.

Does this sound like a respiratory infection? Will she recover?

Can you get a video of the noise she's making?

Could she have gotten a bit of food in her airway?

Have you ever had respiratory illness within your flock?

I saw the video of stridor - that's exactly how she sounds.

Never had any illness with these bantams, but they are only a year old.

I kept her inside and she seems fine so far this morning, so maybe it was stridor. My concern is the smaller birds that always find a way into my coop to eat the food - they could bring something.

Glad she's doing well today.
