I have read through several of the post to determine the best treatment procedure for some chicks and their ailment. I receive 25 chicks from a hatchery on Friday 7/20/12. Mix of different breed to add to the current flock. 3 were DOA and one more died by the end of the first day. 1 was an EE and 3 were Polish. I lost my last polish about a week later it was having problems breathing with crackling sound, one morning and by the end of the day it had died. I had a black broiler that is smaller than the other 5 that has the same crackling sound and have been applying Vick's to it and it has made it past 3 days. This morning an EE that appeared fine last night when checking them, was lethargic and when I pick it up same thing crackling sound, made it about 2 hours and expired. Postmortem it had fluid similar to mucus running out its mouth. The last two seemed to be running a fever and were warmer to the touch than the others.
Feeding non medicated starter, duramycin10 in water. In a brooder with coarse pine shavings. Heat lamp regulated to temp required with room to move away.
I have looked at the rest of the group and while listening to them I can not hear any more crackling in the breathing. At the Moment.
Could this be something that they arrived with and is just now presenting ? First Purchase from this Hatchery.
In reading the post on respiratory infections I have a list of 8 drugs to check if TSC has on the Self, Which would you use first?
Corid, sulmet, tylan, LA200, Omnimycin, Albon ( sufadumethoxine), Sulfamethazine.
Or do I let it run its course and weed out the weaker in the group.
