Respiratory infection??

Hello fellow duck lovers! I’ve got a Muscovy female, fefe who I’m a bit worried about. When I came to take care of them tonight she sounded raspy and I thought maybe she just over used her vocals as she is quite the noisy one but then I heard her sneezing and some sort of coughing so I’m wondering if this some some respiratory infection and I’ve caught it early on? She seems fine otherwise. There is only one other duck and she is sitting on eggs right now but I can’t think of anything that would cause this. If it is a respiratory issue how should I treat it? The only antibiotics I have on hand are amoxicillin and Clavacillin

@Isaac 0 is better at what meds are best or @casportpony Hopefully they’ll be around soon. Hopefully FeFe will be fine.

With waterfowl, a quick onset in respiratory problems is often associated with tracheal obstruction, most commonly, that is due to the inhalation of seeds, feed particles, or other matter. This will often resolve itself over a few hours or a day. The video will help determine whether this might be the problem or not.

Yes I can try to get a video tomorrow but it did sound like that, just faster. She was fine yesterday morning so it could be gone tomorrow but I wanted to be prepared just in case

How much do you have?

I’ve got 20 capsules of 250mg amoxicillin and 15 tablets of 625mg clavacillin (500mg amoxicillin and 125mg clavulanate in each one)

Have you tried putting a few drops of iodine (Lugols solution) and a pinch of sea salt in the water?

I just went out to feed and let them out and she still sounds a bit raspy but a lot better then yesterday and while I was out she didn’t sneeze or anything like that so she must have got something in her throat or scratched it maybe but I will still keep an eye on her

I would find it likely that would be the case as well. Providing head deep water can often aid in the debridement of such things stuck in the upper respiratory tract.
