Looking for help identifying what's going on with my silkie.

Symptoms
  • Wheezing and sneezing with constant sound
  • Some watery green poop a couple days ago that I assumed was from heat stress, I gave her electrolytes. Poop appears normal and healthy now.
  • Mild mouth breathing
  • Seems still energetic and active despite issues, still eating
  • Tried VetRX which I know doesn't do much but it didn't seem to help open her airways at all
  • Brown dusty material in nostrils that comes back when wiped away (maybe mucus?)
  • Holding her wings out slightly
  • Choanal slit in her mouth is open/clear
  • Nostrils are full of brown gunk (mucus/dirt?) that I'm not totally sure how to get out, tried wiping away and moistening it though

Treatment so far is isolation, took shavings out of the box/coops for now, VetRX, electrolytes, clearing the nostrils, having her sit in a steamy room for 20 minutes.

EDIT: She seems okay right now, it comes and goes so I'm thinking it's some sort of minor blockage in the nostril. I'll moisturize her nostrils sometimes and hopefully it unclogs on its own. She's acting like nothing is wrong now (no kazoo sounds or mouth breathing.)

Thank you for any help!

Sound like Stridor which is when food, mucous or debris gets into the airway. This usually resolves on its own, but since you are seeing a blocked nostril, I'd try to clear it out and see if that makes a difference.
I ended up brushing a damp soft toothbrush in her nostrils and some of the gunk came out, she seems fine today/nostrils look pretty clean! Thank you for the help!

I'm glad she doing better.

She's a Silkie right? For some reason, it seems like they can get clogged nostrils. Could be the shape of their facial structure, I'm not sure.
You may want to check her nostrils periodically and clean them out as needed.

Yes. Maybe just rolling and lots of dirt stuck in their hat or something, she has an especially big hat for a silkie and she rolls in dirt nearly daily. Most of the stuff in her nostrils appeared to just be dirt.

Could be the facial structure too because that particular silkie has quite a large vaulted skull. I'll give her nostrils a good clean from time to time!
