Please help! I am hoping that I can get some advice and ideas on how to help my 4 year hen. She has had swelling at both her eye and sinus areas for almost a week and now her breathing is being affected. The areas feel hard not squishy. I’ve been using saline, Terramycin, fish mox and Vet RX. When she breathes there's not any sounds of upper respiratory and when she is breathing the breaths are deep with her beak closed. There’s no smell, mucus or liquids at her eye or nostril areas. Her poop is normal, walks around fine but just seems tired at times. She also drinks water fine and at times eats her dry crumbles but seems to prefer her feed to be wet I think it’s because it’s easier for her to pick up. She also started a few days ago molting. There is a local vet but I’m hopeful that maybe there’s some other options that I can try on my own. Thank you

Does she seem to have bubbles in the corner of her eye or dry crust under the eye and on her nostrils from drainage or mucus? The eye and nostril kind of look like it has dried drainage. Could she have been stung by a wasp or yellow jacket? Those have been terrible around her this year, and they can sting numerous times. A single dose of Benadryl 1/2 of a 25 mg day orally may help that. Have you ever seen a respiratory disease (MG or coryza) in your flock before, or have you added any new bird to the flock in the last few weeks? Does she smell bad or normal around her beak? Look up into the roof of her beak for any yellow gunk at the choanal slit.

Did it get any better with treatment? How is she eating? Could she have been stung?
Her breathing and swelling is looking better today. She’s eating ok too. It is possible that she could have been bee stung.

No I haven’t seen any bubbles or discharge. It’s possible that she could have been stung by a bee. They have been bad this summer and I have seen a few different ones flying close by to their areas. I have seen and read about MG and Corza while researching online. I haven’t added any new chickens to my flock since April of 2023 and all the others have been fine so far. I haven’t smelled any bad odor and the roof her beak looks normal. For the Benadryl I would just need to mix that mg of a pill in water in a syringe and then give it once a day or twice? Also for how many days do you think would be best?
