Hi everyone! This is my first time posting anything and I'm a total newbie to the backyard chicken thing. I have 3 BR girls who are happy and laying almost everyday for me! However 1 of them this morning I noticed when I went to pet her, and she squatted for me like usual, she sounded like someone let all of the air out of her lungs. Also when I pick her up she makes that sound. In my arms she doesn't seem to have any breathing issues just when I first pick her up or when she squats with force. She laid an egg today and acting totally normal. Is she sick? What can I do for her? Please help!!

! Happy you joined us but sorry to hear about your chicken. I am not versed enough in what you are describing to diagnose - and it may be nothing at all - but you might post in this link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures
Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC!

Welcome to BYC. It is probably normal. When they squat for you that is what they do when a rooster tries to mate them, and they are being submissive. It just may be some noise she makes. As long as she looks normal and is active, I wouldn't worry.
