Respiratory wheezing post subcutaneous emphysema decompression on my 8 wk old Black Spanish Turkey. Will the squeaky wheezing eventually clear up?

I haven't tried any medicine yet. This morning it has the wheeze, but is eating and drinking very well. I was going to research today and go to Rural King and pick up whatever I need. The decompression site is looking good......so far. As a 25 year retired Paramedic, I've done so many decompressions, but this is a new one for me. I have studied the anatomy chart here on the site.

After researching all afternoon, I found a list of herbal remedies for my little guy. I made him garlic water. I covered his kennel with a towel and heating pad. I wanted him to rest and have some quiet. This morning he is wheezing less and not gasping for air. His decompression site is healing. He's now scratching for treats and he loves the garlic water. I figure I'll keep him in the house with me for at least another 5 days then if he is cleared up he can go back to the flock. He really loves snuggling on my chest and laying his head on my shoulder. If he survives this, he is going to be a pet and not Thanksgiving main event. I love this little guy.

Your research failed to show you that garlic is toxic to poultry.

Is garlic good for turkeys?
The benefits of feeding garlic to poultry Poultry keepers have used raw garlic for years to help ward off a whole list of poultry ailments including respiratory problems, infection, and as a general support to the immune system-promotes growth in weak birds and has a positive effect on the nutritional value of eggs ...Jan 8, 2020 This is some of the research I found. I have started a journal on all natural herbs and their uses for future reference. I made the garlic water and only gave him 10 cc's in his water dish.
One clove per 5 gallons water. This is what I did and he is thriving today. He chirps and the wheezing is almost gone. He has stopped gasping for air. I know I'm new to this group and I want as much information and experiences from fellow poultry lovers. So, happy I found this group. Thank you for all the responses.

Garlic is an allium. All alliums are toxic to poultry.

It will not help any poultry to give them garlic. If you give it in a low enough dosage, it won't kill them outright.

Just because garlic is helpful for people does not mean it has the same effect for poultry.

Not to be disagreeable, but I'm very thorough with my research my whole life. With the poultry industry banning certain Big Pharma and getting back to natural herb remedies, this website, National Library of Medicine, is up to date up to 2024. The section in the link is about poultry. My little guy has improved immensely. I'm replacing my personal medication with natural remedies with the approval of my GP. Thank you for your concern and response.

Do research on alliums and poultry. There is lots of information about the harmfulness and toxicity to poultry. Garlic is an an allium and is a known toxin to poultry.

It is very likely that your poult's seeming recovery is coincidental.
