My hen, Ra, has had this respitory disease for a while now. She once and a while gets the foam in the corners of her eyes, she sneezes alot but her nose is dry, no runny nose or snotty blockages. She weezes a lot and has a raspy voice. Also, when I looked down her throat, there seems to be a lot of foamy saliva in her mouth. She's drinking and eating normally, shes not thin or losing weight, shes actually pretty fit. I lost a rooster to similar symptoms, he was fine then it brought him down until he died. Please, help!

have you tried a regime of antibiotics for a hen that size tylan or you could try agrimycin in the water tylan is injected see if that knocks it out could be a number of things and oxytetracycline / tylan are broad spectrum Im in the human medical field and we call that shotgunning basically seein if the broadspectrum knocks it out might never know what exactly it was..... Otherwise a vet may be needed...

Okay, I'd like a vet to see to her, but I don't know of any bird vets near me....the small animal hospitals usually go by the rule: "Not sure, lemme keep her here for the night and make her get better......translated...." I dont treat birds, but I want money so Ill keep her here with the food and water she could be getting at home and wait until she gets better on her own or dies..."

I have a roo that I bought at a swap meet and I swear he keeps a resp. infection. Tylan 50 is my method of choice and has worked wonders on my others...I don't know if he is just sickly (bad genetics) or what

, no runny nose, no sneezing runs around taking care of his ladies but when he crows I can tell he is congested...Another round of antibiotics comin up!!

These respiratory problems are a major pain! I have given lots of antibiotics and it seemed to work... sort of. I would start soon before it really gets your girl gets thin and weak.

The tylan 50 worked well for me. If you want to start with the terramycin water treatment that may work. It's less pricey, and no shots. But if you need it because the powder isn't working you have lost time and money.

I too have some weak stock here. I thought chickens were tough little creatures... nope. Poor dears! If you get one who is a carrier of who knows what.. then it seems you keep reinfecting the whole bunch..with another round of something else each time. Now I have lame and hobbling too! Possible MS/ MG (mycoplasma bad crap.. not an official term)

No easy answer!

well mines is fine, the most common state she is in when I enter is raspy voice and when I look down her throat, its full of saliva thats kinda foamy....other than those, she looks fit and fine! Theres no vet near me as far as I know if anyone knows of one near LA, CA please share!

Get some Oxine. Google it. It comes in a quart or gallon. I got mine from Amazon.com. You mix it with water. 6 1/2 ounces of Oxine per 1 gallon of water. DO NOT mix the crystals with it. You have to but those seperate ayway. Cage the sick birds and get a spray bottle and mist there faces 3 times a day. You want them to breath the mist. I was at a loss with my birds. Antibiotic after antibiotic. NOTHING helped except Oxine. Its about $22 per gallon and $10 for shipping. A gallon will last a long time. Plus it can be used as a coop disifectant too. Worked wonders for me. Good Luck!!
