Respitory infection in duck.

The max Tylan 50 dose is 1 ml (50 mg) per pound per day.
1.25 x 50 / 50 = 1.25 ml per day
Twice a day = 0.625 ml twice a day
Three times a day = 0.41 ml three times a day
Four times a day = 0.3125 ml four times a day

If she were mine I would give 0.625 ml twice a day or 0.41 ml three times a day.
I'll go to 0.625 twice daily. The three times a day is a strain? I tragically am not home as much this time of year as I would like. Hopefully by the end of the week we will be on the mend.

That sounds so small. She is my biggest girl. I am curious what the others weigh. Anyone happen to know what weight range they are supposed to fall in according to the SOP?

1lb is SOP for a Call duck, don't worry, she looks fine weight-wise...

Kathy gave excellent advice... hope she gets better!

Thanks. I can't wait to buy the updated book next year! I'll study and study once I do. I wish I could find it at a local library but it seems the public isn't as interested in poultry as I am lol.

The book is hard to find without direct buying it from the APA... since they only add to it, it's value stays up there... I just looked up exact standard weights, 18-20oz for ducks and 22-26oz for drakes...

Ducks are not Chickens and pass everything liquid through their nares....
Not sure what that has to do with giving a duck garlic water, but ok. I've done it with ducks too, but just because they like the garlic. Its supposed to have anti-viral properties, and since its totally natural, it can't hurt to give them some. Sometimes viral infections upset the immune system and make way for bacterial infections. My ducks like to "bob-for-garlic"
