Rest in Peace Nugget

Hoping those french fries perk him up!

Hopefully he's ok! My DH who "hates" chickens and me being on BYC, asks me about Nugget stories. He especially loves the one where he protected the house. He thinks he's the coolest rooster ever!

See if your mom can pick up some Gatorade for him to go with his fries. Is he in a warm spot? He needs to be kept warm if he's in shock. Move him inside out of the wind and use a heat light in a corner like for chicks.

Please keep us updated!

Hydration is imperative. If he's not drinking, I'd drip some water with vits/electros in his beak several times a day until he's showing improvement. Hopefully, it's just shock, and he'll be fine later. But, they'll die the most quickly from dehydration, and then malnutrition. Don't let him go too long without sustenance. BEST of luck with Nugget!

I'll let you know if the fries work and I called her to get some gatorade, she can use my syringes to give it to him. I'll owe her for the rest of my life for this.

Fries probably aren't the best choice to tempt him to eat....unless they're unsalted and baked instead of deep fried! But, if that's all he'll eat, it's of course better than nothing!

I strongly urge you to follow this advice on the electrolytes... gatorade is but an emergency substitue...

I know how frustrating it is when you have to work and have a sick chook at home; hang in there and hopefully your day will go quickly!

Is Nugget wrapped in a blanket? I know when they are in shock, slow warming helps. It would be great if your mom sat with him and held him close so her body heat would warm him up.

Then I would make sure he had a heating pad, or warming light so he would be near it if he wants too. With infant pups the vet always said to give a bit of sugar water because it doesn't need digestion, it is absorbed and gives some energy boost. That may trigger him to try and eat. Just don't give too much in a syringe - just to see that they actually swallow so they won't aspirate the fluids.
