Rest in peace

The last of my original flock passed today. The old girl had been acting like she wasn't feeling well as of late. I found her in her nest box curled up and passed on.

I normally don't allow myself to get too attached to animals I eat, but she was the last hen from my very first flock. I bought her as an adult to get my flock started when i was learning about chickens and had her for almost 8 years.

I lost three of my original flock to the heat this past summer. I was surprised at how sad it was.

Aww, so sorry to hear that, Kristy! I only have one of my original three chickens as well......Old Daisy, but she's only 4. The first one, was lost to a predator, and the second one I lost last winter. Daisy is going strong........She's a golden buff hybrid.
