Restricted Mallard Color - Genetics Question

So I have mystery ducklings. They are blue in color and have the restricted mallard pattern (cute little Mohawks). For the life of me I can’t figure out where this gene came from!

I have pencilled runners, a blue runner, a chocolate runner, saxony, welsh harlequin, and khaki campbells.

Is it possible for a blue runner to carry the restricted mallard gene? She came from Metzer if that matters. That or some of my other ducks somehow carry the restricted mallard gene.

Yes, I believe both your Blue and Chocolate Runners could have the Restricted allele but the Extended Black would hide it. I am thinking that your babies would be from a Khaki drake and the blue runner hen but I am not a genetics expert. Here is a link to a good genetics article:
