You know, if you want a dog that takes little training why not look into a fila or an anatolian? Both are natural protectors. Even a pyr would be a natural protector, and they aren't usually people aggressive. That is a plus because pyrs sound scary, but don't usually bite. It would be easier to get a breed that has the natural instinct to protect than it would to get a dog that needed to be specifically trained.

A Pyr is big and it will bark! I have a Pyr/lab mix that will bark at newcomers and it is certainly a deterrent....but my Choc. lab/BC mix strikes more fear in their hearts. He is brown and has that intense BC gaze and is absolutely silent, with an aggressive stance.

Now, both dogs would wag someone to death before ever thinking of biting....but folks don't know that and this is what is important.

I would go for the Lab...especially a chocolate or black! Insurance companies don't give them a second look!

Better yet...invest in a 16 guage shotgun. They don't eat, drink or need vet visits. They don't require any intensive training to sit, stay or bark. They don't even have fleas! They can be placed easily out of little kids' reach and are quite impressive to any ne'er-do-wells. You don't even have to have a shell in them for the mere appearance of one to intimidate the most persistent crazy neighbor!
