My name is Kathy and I live in northern Indiana. It has been 27 or 28 years since I have had chickens. Six weeks ago I ordered 25 babies after building a small coup. I'm hoping to end up with 12 to 15 hens. It looks like I have at least 6 little roosters. I have Anconas, Americanas, Bielefelders, Black Australorps, Black Stars, Columbian Wyandottes, Golden Wyandottes, Red Stars, Silver Laced Wyandottes, and Whiting True Blues. I am really happy with the color variation in my little flock. They are now 6 weeks old and suddenly seem to have come down with a cold. They are wheezing and rattling when they breath, and are coughing/sneezing. I had chickens for many years and have never had this problem. Worried that I did have something wrong. I hope this isn't fatal.

Hello, Kathy, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Where are you keeping them?
It's either a respiratory infection or not enough fresh air. You write 'building a small coop' and then write about have 25 birds. That many birds needs a large coop with lots of ventilation.

Welcome to BYC! I'm glad you joined us. I'm sorry to hear about your chicks. You may want to try posting about their problem in the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures forum. I hope they get better soon. If you need help sexing your chicks, we have a forum for that, too. Best wishes, and good luck.

Best of cluck Cathy.
