Hi Guys Its ME, ive been gone for a couple years, got married, etc, took a break from farm life, But temptation got the best of me,i still had my coop.... I been looking at it... seeing now im out of work :( and bored, etc, ...idle hands.... any way, i went to the auction one day ( first mistake) bought 4 redstar chickens.. my favorite for egg prod. Well my keen eye bought the "best" ones. in 2 weeks i got about 4 eggs and I think they may be from the same hen, who I later discovered had scaly legs (already been treated) Now I DONT know why they aren't laying, my impatience always gets me, Tom. Im going to Benedicts in CT Buying 4 Pullets for less than what i payed for these older broads haha... one seems to be getting new feathers, the other is nice and fat, and they look no older than 2 years, well someone calm my nerves or help me figure out whats goin on, ill post pics as soon as I get a moment. Oh yes they are on blue seal "multi flock" AND GET TONS OF BREAD soaked on water ( My uncle has a bakery) and they get tons of clover, I dont allow them to free range yet. basically they are living at The Hiltons for chickens.

Thank You,
Aldo

Hi and thank you, I never had chickens up to a moult, I always buy pullets in the spring and they wind up in the freezer by next spring, when I replenish, I just found it odd that i haven't gotten a single egg in almost 3 weeks... hopefully they will start again soon!! AND I have a hen that's has no sign of broodiness but sat in the nest box for 2 hours , did the egg song and no egg, I lets see what tomorrow brings with the new gals, im eggcited ..... It's good to be back, I just dont want to juggle too manyballs again, so I gotta stay away from rabbits..... But I still have the hutches.... lol... nope cant do it, I'll wind up living in one of them haha

Aldo

Could be your hen has a big egg coming and is having trouble with it. Or she may be egg bound.

Maybe your hens they are having a mutiny because they heard you will eat them by next spring.

Actually the addition of new birds may set production back even further. The restructuring of the pecking order can cause this to happen. Chickens hate change of any sort. Be sure to quarantine the new birds.

New Chicken quarentine near the older ones..... BOY are they protesting!!!!!!!..... I had a few egg bound hens, this one isn't displaying any of the signs of an egg bound hen... Although if there was a security breach and they find out of their fate... it is possibility hahah
