Return to the flock

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

You need to expand the run far more than a bit. I know that the minimum that is recommended here is 10 sq ft of run space per bird but they really do a lot better with closer to 15 to 17 sq ft. Make it as large as you can and have as much of it under a solid roof as possible to keep the area underneath dry.
Oh, that would be ideal, for sure! But I don’t have the square footage at this moment to do that. I plan on giving them some access to my raised beds a couple of times a week for now. But their daily digs while we’re working will be the 10-12 sf/cluck for now.

View attachment 3469496Hi! I had chickens many years ago, but life circumstances led me away. Now I’m back!
My duplex neighbor and I have wanted chickens for a while now, and finally we have a little flock started (2 Buff Orpington, 2 Cinnamon Queen). They’re still under lights indoors. But this is a little hand-me-down coop/run we’ve renovated, almost ready for the ladies when they’re feathered out! We will be expanding the run a bit, because a busy street and a ton of predators in the neighborhood means no free-ranging for these Cluckenas.

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.
