Our hens have bare patches on their backs from the roosters, which has been resolved. I know they will pretty much stay this way until their first molt however I’ve noticed that downy feathers are starting to reappear……OR, am I losing my mind?

It is possible for them to grow some feathers when its not time to molt, so they could be growing them!
Pictures would help too!
Thank You for the reply. Here are some pics of some of the hens. They were beat up by too many roosters for the number of hens until we resolved that issue. They all had bald patches just like the one in the pic and the skin appeared red and dry. We expected to just leave them alone until their first molt but then noticed they seem to be regrowing at least some of their down.

It does look like down could be growing. If you're pretty sure it wasn't there before I'd say it is new down.
