Returning ducklings to mother

We are on a learning experience! Our Pekin Duck has been sitting for about 5 1/2 weeks and an egg has hatched! We found the duckling outside the pen. . I took it and put it in a brooding box. It is lonely! Has anyone taken their babies at night to keep them safe and return them to the nest during the day? Our drake is in the pen during the night and I don’t trust him. And I’m concerned the little peanut might get stepped on by mom. One egg was beginning to hatch last Saturday and the mom squished it flat. Those big feet. Thanks for your info.
