I joined Backyard Chickens more than a year ago. My wife and I bought 12 chickens two years ago when we lived in a community near Raleigh, NC. We purchased a chicken coop and made a screened run in our backyard, with assistance from Backyard Chickens. I remember posting that I was using chicken wire for the run and was quickly told that, "chicken wire keeps chickens in but does not keep predators out." We did it right after that. We have since moved to a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and increased our flock.

We have barred rocks, buff orpingtons, rhode island reds, and light brahmas from our original flock. This year we added more orpingtons, rhode island reds, araucanas, and australorps.
