Hi to all! We had chickens years back but after one of my kids left the door open I lost them all overnight
We live up on the foothills of the lower Sierra Nevada mountains on 7 acres with a seasonal river that runs through it. My daughter, son in law and their 5 kids live on the property also. We decided it was time to get back to country life and bought 15 chicks down at the feed store, 7 barred rocks and 8 Rhode Island Reds. We now have them in a large container in the house with light over them and theyre eating like crazy
We were gifted a run down coop so my son in law is fixing it up and prepping it for when they will move into it in a few weeks. I love raising free range chickens, love to walk out with yummies and have them run up to me, just sitting and watching them is one of the most relaxing things I can think of to do during my day
I also like to bake, make my own kefir, kombucha, sourdough bread. I am always learning about healthy eating, one of my passions. I just recently bough supplies to make a knitted blanket, its been awhile and I'm sure I will have lots of brush up on. I do like to quilt too, but haven't for a few years. My husband and I have been very busy running our company for the last ten years, we transport pets (mostly dogs and cats) across the country on once a month trips from CA to east coast and returning. Its a hard but rewarding job helping military, those that are moving, snowbirds etc move their pets around. My husband does the driving and I run the office. I found BYC years ago on my first experience with chickens. I fell in love with them and am looking forward to starting over!! Would appreciate any advice on when to put them out in the coop, if its warm will I need a light when they go out there? I will also be checking articles on here
