I couldn't remember my old username and password so I joined back up as a newbie
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
No, been around them all my life, started trying to get into livestock conservancy breeding with Creves until some financial strain happened and I had to sell out of all my stock and other layer chickens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We are setting up to get new stock, but are focusing back on conservancy with Welsh Harlequin Ducks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Currently, we have only WH Ducks, but I have owned and raised RIR, Cinnamon Queens, Buff Orpington, Barred Rocks, and Muscovy ducks as well as Khaki Campbell ducks. This is our first year endeavoring into Welsh Harlequin ducks and since we are better off than we have been in the last few years it's our new step into a better start this time around and with a LOT more knowledge than before.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Reminds me of growing up and being out in the country, currently, we live in town but can only have a certain number of animals. Hopefully, looking forward to the next few months, maybe we will be back out in the country again soon enough! (Driveby shootings and constant city noise just aren't for me or my family!)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
When I have time, I am a gardener, permaculturist, RE investor, and Roblox coder/game dev. (for my kids mainly).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I left 10 years in corporate real estate to homeschool our children back in 2020 and I am so glad I did! We live in Southern Missouri down here in the Ozarks.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Well, I forgot my other info and needed to sign back up for the community involvement because FB is sorely lacking in that department - some groups are helpful but not necessarily specific to answering questions but the trolls will troll no matter where you are. I am looking to get into showing Welsh Harlequin ducks and helping to improve the conservancy of this heritage breed. I love animals and have always been interested in them, just never had much time working 16-18 hour days for over 10 years. Now we have more family time and more time for this as well. If anyone has any links to good reading material on the standard of perfection (with photos!) of the good and bad and what to look for regarding the WH ducks I would be ever grateful because Google hasn't been super helpful there. Maybe there isn't anything specific to this breed? Not sure, so any advise is welcome with open arms here LOL!
