reusing old cartons

I just ordered custom egg carton labels from adozengirlz. I reuse my egg cartons, place a label on them, and give them to my friends. Of course I only have 5 hens so that is not very many eggs. Check her out. She does beautiful work and they look very professional. Just do a search here on BYC under her name.

We use recycled cartons, add a label with our farm name, address, phone (all required by NC law). We use a "best by" label on the end of the cartons, 30 days from date of lay.

Not sure about IN, but in NC you do not have to register unless you're selling over 30 cartons per week, on farm or off farm.

ETA: Here's another post on the same subject. ADozenGirlz has posted there, you can get in contact with her from there. Also some others shared ideas that may be helpful to you.:

I only use styrofoam cartons for my sale eggs and I sanitize all of those. Nothing against pulp cartons, but they cannot be washed or adqeuately sanitized so those I only use for give-away eggs.

For my one store account I label the cartons with my name, contact info, and the week the eggs were laid and packed.

Personally I don't find it sanitary to keep reusing cardboard over and over again. I will reuse the plastic ones indefinitely with washing but the cardboard I reuse once. We'll fill up cartons that people have bought store eggs in or have cartons from store bought eggs given to us. Then I don't take them back again. I buy cartons as needed online in bulk and again reuse the cardboard ones once before disposing of them. I don't label mine at all. I bought a few size labels when I thought I would sell lots of eggs but found selling eggs isn't really worth the effort around here. Most we give away and it's rare they don't get used up quickly. Eggs are good for months in the fridge and most people use them within weeks so expiration is not an issue. I'm not even sure what I'd mark the exp date as since I've still used eggs 4months old and fed the dogs 6month old eggs when we clean out the fridge at the end of the year.
