Mine is covered. We get a lot of rain in the winter.

A roof is a good idea if you have the budget for it, both for rain protection and for predator protection. Mine is unroofed. My run is going to get wet no matter if there's a roof or not due to high groundwater and the fact that it's close to a creek.

Ok thank you! I will probably roof a portion of it, just to provide dome minimal shelter. It will still have Hardware cloth on top though.

That sounds pretty good - my girls would love it if I had even a bit of the run covered (instead I have to give them rain shelters to use). With the hardware cloth (or any other overhead covering other than a solid roof) make sure you have a plan for how to handle snow, even if you don't normally get too much.

I like the idea of partially-covered, partially-open on principle -- so that the chickens can choose how sheltered they want to be at any given moment.
