Rheas in colder climates

How do Rheas do in the colder climates? I am in Maine and would like to get some Rheas but I haven't heard much of anyone up this way with Rheas.

i am in central pa! do you happen to sell rhea hatching eggs? ive been interested in getting rheas for awhile. we have emus! but i was not going to buy rhea eggs from california ect shipping is to risky

I don't have eggs.. but I'm sure u can get some.. there is a place called painted medows. she is in pa too and I got my birds from her.. or there is a place called tobias wildlife park its in hailfax pa.. I'm going there and picking up a gray girl.. wanted a white one but cant find one. and the lady I got my male from said he might have white babys because her's do but mine is only a yr old so at least another yr before eggs.. they are fun pets.. they stay with my mini horse. and my potbelly pigs goes in pen too.. they don't bother them at all.. now that the female died he is by the horse more now..

Hey, Are Rheas good pets? I haven't read as much about them, but I would like to know in case my emus don't hatch I might get them instead. The variation in their colors interests me, and I assume their eggs can be candled since they are lighter, but I haven't seen much on whether or not they are friendly. I am in northern PA myself, so it's good to know they are also okay with colder weather.

I have rheas in northern Michigan and have no problems! They ought to have access to a dry and appropriately sized indoor area to get out of the weather when they want (mine only come in when it's below 0° or terribly windy). They don't seem to mind the snow, and they obviously don't mind the rain.

Here are a few photos of their set up! As you can see we added about three feet to and existing fence for their run. Their stall is 10x10 ft. In these pictures the woven wire is larger (i think 3x3 inch square openings) and its been replaced by 1x1 inch so they cannot stick their necks through. They have two fenced areas, one is a half acre run with 7 ft fencing and a smaller run in( I think its 8x5 ft). The other is a 3 acre horse pasture with post board fencing-no woven wire. They respect the post board fencing unless something comes into the pasture which freaks them out. They use both daily, but the larger pasture is only used when we are physically present at the barn... which is most of the time! I have taken them for walks with me down to our lake, which is only five minute walk from our barn, since they were chicks and they are good about coming when called (I use a whistle). In the winter we use the larger stall as their main run in because they muck up the smaller one too quickly and it does not have time to dry.
