Rhode Island chick mama

Well howdy and welcome, friend! Sounds like you’ve been through the sticky South and come out the other side wiser, cooler, and ready to start fresh up in Rhode Island. Nothing like building a coop with your own hands, and turning a Little Tykes playhouse into a hen haven? Now that’s what I call frontier ingenuity. Bet those chicks are gonna love their new digs. Glad you made it here - you’re among good folks who know the joy (and the mud, yes mud) of chicken keepin. Pull up a chair, share your stories any time.

Big welcome from Jesse!

Hi there!
We had chickens in the Tampa, FL area when our kids were young. That was a hot, stinky, muddy endeavor. Now we live in Rhode Island and the kids are older and helping a lot with our 3 chicks. I’m in the process of building out a Little Tykes playhouse to be used as their coop. I can’t wait to get them outside!
Glad to be here with other like-minded folks 😊🐔

As you can see we’re on a significant slope. I’m proud that I managed to get the coop level

Insulation on the ceiling, peel and stick wallpaper samples on the floor to aid in cleaning, and starting to predator-proof the openings.

Isn’t she cute with our little clover meadow?
