Can someone point me in the right direction here? I am looking to find out the breed standards for RIR for showing and breeding. I cannot seem to find info on this. Thanks in advance! And here is a pic of my big boy, Boss, feel free to comment! His beautiful tail feathers were pulled out in March by one of my hens, but they are growing back in nicely! He is 7 months old. He does have darker coloring on his legs, you just can't see it well in the pic.

Come on over to the Heritage Rhode Island Red thread where birds bred to the Standard are discussed. Lots of discussion by keepers and breeders of these fine birds. The Standard is in the Standard of Perfection, published and copyrighted by the American Poultry Association. It really isn't kosher to just cut and paste the full standard on forum. I know, I know some folks do it, but they likely do not have permission to re-print it. Just sayin'.

Here a photo of Red bred to the standard. Remember, there is no perfect bird. But, some birds are so far off the standard that breeding with them is a mistake. Better to begin with top notch birds and work with them. That is difficult enough. With poorer bred birds, there simply isn't enough DNA present to work with and not enough decades to breed them up and yes, it would take that long.
