I am not into show quality (I do not show birds) but have been working on improving the type of my birds. I have been using this male as a breeder. What do you think of his body type? I know he is a bit smutty: he is missing a gene to clear up the black on specific areas of his body. He is a hybrid.

ETA: Now it is showing up. I'm not a RIR breeder, but I think he looks nice. I bet in a couple generations you can get that black in the body to disappear.

He's kind of short in body length. Also he really doesn't appear to have the classic Red "brick shape". He would need to squared off in the front more.

Does he need to longer in the back (neck hackles to tail)?

Does he need to be squared in the front like the bird below?
