I'm new to having backyard chickens, my babies just turned a year old. When the girls molted my Rhode Island Red, Ginger, looked
awful. But as the others, her feathers began to return except for her back. The feathers still have not returned and now the skin is looking red and irritate. I don't see any signs of mites/lice, but I may not know what I'm looking for.

Do you keep a rooster? He may be over mating her and tearing out her feathers. If you think this is going on, keep them apart until she grows in these feathers. You might get her a hen saddle to protect this area from injury or from others picking on her.

You can get them here...http://www.hensaver.com

Yes, I do have a rooster. Thank you for the website, I will try the saddle.

I agree with @TwoCrows, your hen looks like she may be your roosters favorite.

Definitely check out the hen saver website.
