One of my Rhode island reds has had a small red dot about the size of a quarter on her bottom for about 5 days. She hasn't laid an egg in the last four days, which she has always laid eggs even through molting. Her bottom also feels swollen and hard and part of her comb is purple. I thought she may be egg bound, but when I stuck my finger in and tried feeling for an egg and can't feel anything. Her vent has popped out several times, as if she is pushing hard. I soaked her in warm water with Epsom salt but she started thrashing as if it hurt so I took her out of the water. She seemed to get worse. She had a hard time breathing and her comb and waddles were turning purple. I massaged her throat and body with some Pet Vet and her breathing got better. Her comb started turning red again but she still has a spot we're it's purple. She is eating very little food that her crop doesn't get filled. She is also pooping very little and it's liquid. I tried giving her a little Epsom salt with water but that didn't seem to work. I also bought a powder of prebiotic and put in the water but that didn't help either. She isn't struggling to breathe or losing many feathers. Any advice on what this could be?

I'm sorry no one answered your post.

How is your hen doing?

Some of the symptoms you describe sounds like a reproductive problem. Cancer, EYP, Salpingitis or similar can be common in laying hens.
You can provide her with extra calcium for a couple of days to see if that helps, she may be having trouble expelling a soft shelled egg.
So hard to know exactly what's going on with a hen, there's so many things that can happen.

Do look her over for lice and mites when you check on her.
