So, I have had two rhode island reds for the past three years, and they are both slightly odd. My hen Maisie is the subject of this thread though, because she has these black patterns on her feathers that, at least to my knowledge, are not common for her breed to have.
She has had these markings ever since she was a chick and they have never gone away. I am not looking to breed her or enter her in competitions or anything, I was just wondering if she was maybe a mix of some other chicken.
She is slightly aggressive, being the only one who pecks me. She is spunky, active, and extremely smart. She also has a HUGE comb and waddles. When she was little, I actually thought we'd been sold a rooster by mistake.
The black markings are mostly at the base of her neck and some of her tail feathers are almost completely black. She also has some black speckles on her back.
I will see if maybe I can post a picture of her, but does anyone have any ideas of what she could be? Is she a pure breed, or a mix of something?
Thanks!
