I have a 2 year old Rhode Island Red that stop laying eggs in October 2013.
She just finished molting about one week ago. Now I am finding little yellow ( quarter size) soft balls in her coop. They have a chewed piece of gum texture and are the color of a yolk. We feed her pellets and calcium but she also free ranges.
She is an extremely social chicken and I have not noticed a big change in her personality .
Any ideas from anyone?

Yes that is common after molting. There is a really good egg thread on this site. Let me look for it.

Thanks I adopted two 18 months old RIR, one on Tuesday and one Today, both aren't laying atm... Of course it could be different from the one I got today, both same home, both are supposedly molting

Thank you so much for the article . That makes me feel so much better.
