The first hens I had as a young boy were two RIRs that I rescued from the axe and a bantam that I caught at our house that the farmer said I could keep. Brownie and Lucky (named Lucky because my Dad relented and let me have a second to keep Brownie company) were the RIRs. They will always hold a place in my heart.

I do love my Rhode Island Reds. Most of the time. LOL they’re quite sassy which I like because I am too sometimes! They are beautiful and reliable and plenty of eggs I’ve weighed from them that exceed jumbo. Yours are gorgeous

When I was 13( long time ago) I was hit by a car. Spent almost 3 months in the hospital. Came home Dec 23... That folowing spring dad got 6 RIR's. I Remember hobbling around on crutches with chickens following me around like lost puppies. I'd gather the eggs, and managed not to brake many while on crutches. Lol.

As soon as we get into our new home, and get settled, I will have some RIR's.

I have 4 RIR chicks. Either there is quite a variance within the breed or mine are...special? Haha
All the same age...4weeks. Two have buff heads. 3 have a "buff" stipe down their chests. One has a solid red chest. One I thought was rumpless but might just be tailless lol. One has a much larger tail than the others. The one with the red chest has a red head and normal tail. Very pretty chick compared to the others. Very uniform in color. So are these all normal variations or are they likely not very pure? Either way is fine. I love all my Chickies. Just wondering. Will try to get a few pics posted here...

These are the other 2. Georgette, with no tail and the other darker headed on with a chest stripe. No name yet lol
