Rhode Island Red Thread!

Pics
I have a question... I hatched 2 RIR eggs (had 10 but only 2 made it) One hatched the red color, the other hatched solid white. I know it can't be a mixed breed because all I have in the coop are RIRs. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

If you bought birds from a hatchery or from a feed store or auction marked RIR, and even if they were brownish, rusty red in color, it doesn't mean they were true bred Reds.

True bred Rhode Island Reds are really only sold by those who love the breed, preserve and breed the birds, keeping their heritage alive.

In chickens there is a dominant white and a recessive white.

It could have been a hidden recessive white.

Of course, I have no idea how common that is to crop up in RIR.

I want some opinions on this bird. When I ordered my chicks I specifically ordered 10 Rhode Island Reds among the others I ordered. However, when I counted them I had one fewer Austra-Whites than I should have and what appeared to be 11 RIRs instead of 10.

I can't see for sure that this is the extra I received, but though his/her coloring appears identical to the other RIRs, his feathering is not smooth like the others. Does this appear to be a Rhode Island or did I indeed get something else in place of what should have been an Austra-White (not even close to that!) The chick is 6 1/2 weeks old.

Thanks for your opinions.

This is Lucy, my 8 week old (maybe a bit younger, she was the smallest of the four chicks I bought) Rhode Island Red. At least, the feed store said that's what she is! They also said my 2 EEs were "Araucana" so I am perhaps a bit skeptical.

My question is, does her head appear normal for a RIR of her age? She was super-adorable as a fuzzy chick, but has looked rattier than the other three since they really feathered out, especially her head/comb/beak. The others are different breeds so it's hard to make a direct comparison, and I'm a chicken newbie.

She appears to be feathering and developing just fine

I have 6 RIR hatchery chicks, we've only had them a week they are starting to settle in now and get more used to me constantly being around and my voice but still on the skittish side to being cuddled
