Rhode Island Red Thread!

She's a pullet - she's just a slower developer.  It's like human girls and puberty -some hit it early and others hit it later.  Also, a bird that is slower to mature that is finally reaching that point this time of year can be further delayed by the effects of the season.
Thank you! I was doing some reading last night and realized it is what it is. When she's ready it will happen. My grandpa had a big farm , wish he was still around! One of the things I read was 50-60 years ago it was un Hurd of for a hen to lay before 30 weeks. So that made me feel better. As I'm new to chickens, just thought it was normal from 20-30 weeks. With the sexlink chicks and other breeds we all have a expectation of early or something is wrong. Just like I thought. Here on out I will not worry about it. Thanks again!

I found a post on Craigslist for some day old RIR Chicks for sale near where I live. I convinced my husband to get them, and I love them, but I am beginning to wonder if they are really RIRs. The man we got them from showed us what was supposed to be their parents and they looked like the heritage dark Rhode Island Red Chickens that I was after. Now that they are 3 weeks they are beginning to get a little white on the tips of their feathers. True Rhode Island Reds are not supposed to have white on them correct?... They have a lot of the RIR looks but the white makes me think they are not as pure as they were supposed to be...

What do you think?

I really don't care if they are heritage birds or not. I was hoping to have real RIR and not a sex link, or cross of some sort. Just hoping to have gotten what I paid for... Do they look like RIR chicks? This is my first experience with the breed.

I have 3 production RIR and they never developed the kind of feathering yours present. They always staid same color no pattern at all.
