Rhode island reds behavior wiht other chickens

I am thinking my next three pullets that I get will be: another EE, a RIR, and a BO. I want some more green eggs and a more classic type of hen because I started a little unusauly with my marans and favs

They will be fine...introduce them slowly as you would with any new introductions. I have a new hampshire red (aggressive) and she is in with a SLW, Ameraucana, Light Brahma & australorps. They are doing fine.

They are just babies at 2 days old.

I would agree witht he others; my RIRs are on the bottom of my flock's pecking order and are very sweet tempered. The White leghorns are on the top of the order and BOSSY! However, adding new hens to an existing flock needs to be done slowly, over a few days, and they should be watched closely as the new ones can be picked on terribly and kept from the food and water.

Yup, I concur with the majority here. I've had my chickens together for just a year now but my RIR is very sweet and never mean to the other chickens.

I really dont know anything, but the Jeffrey Dahmer chick I had was a RIR and Black Sex Link cross, although it really looked like a RIR. I'd believe the guy who has the chickens. He's know their temperment better than anyone.

First of all, the other posters are right: You should be careful introducing tiny chicks to an established flock.

As far as general RIR temperament goes, our resident terror does happen to be an RIR. (She's pecking one of our Buffs so consistently that the poor thing won't come out of the nesting box!)

Our RIR Hazel was very nice until she started laying. Then she started picking on our smallish X-link, Rita. She even drew blood. We gave her to FrozenFeathers and I guess all she needed was more space (we live in the city/suburbs/thingy) because now she's happy, nice, and got a rooster boyfriend, Hiro.

I have a mixed flock with 2 RIR, 3 red x-links, 2 mix bread bantums, 1 BO, 2 SLW.
I got the RIR's first and they are the sweetest girls. Its my SLW who can get aggressive with the others.
