How heat / cold tolerant are the Rhode Island Reds and how do they lay in the heat / cold?

Rhode Island Reds are very cold tolerant, easily handling winter temperatures well below 0 F and are better layers than most breeds under those conditions. They are somewhat heat tolerate, but not as much so as Australorps or some of the Mediterranean breeds all of which do well in temperatures that get well over 100 F.

Love my Rhode Island Reds, just got 15 chicks this spring and should start to lay around the last of this month. Here in upstate NY it gets quite cold in the winter with temps below zero. Lots of shavings on the floor with walls and ceiling insulated in my eggmoble
