I love my rirs... They are awesome egg layers.

I just went to a place that had about a hundred RIR. They are very pretty hens I must say and yes they are awesome layers.

Ours RIR lay great, even in this sub-zero -30 windchill weather we've been having here.

Ours RIR aren't very cuddly as far as pet's go, YMMV.

Ours RIR aren't the biggest birds for meat, but they will do just fine.

This last group of RIR hens i raised are the sweetest things ever...I have a table in my barn where i keep my feed bags on every time i go in they jump up on the table and look up at me!!,and when i set down on a bucket to hand feed them the rir hens fly up on my knee to be pet even if i dont have food..and alot of times i walk in and they look up at me and want to be picked up..theyre a real treat!! I have heard others say that rirs are quite moody...but it think if you spend alot of time with them they tame out...and they lay 2nd to my leghorns even today when its snowing and freezing i got eggs from my rir hens... If i had to choose 2 breeds to go with it would be Rhode Island Reds and White leghorns,my white leghorns are nice too....but are very lite on theyre feet though.. If you spook em they could fly a couple hunerd feed before they realize it was just me..
