I am going to order more pullets from Ideal. I was wondering if anyone has any input as to which breed is best for egg laying. I know the RI Reds lay well and are pretty as well. I was leaning toward the NewHampshires because they are pretty but dont want to cut into egg production either. I raise them to sell when they are older so people want good layers. I am also ordering some Barred Rocks as they lay good too. Any input on them would be great.

I have 2 NHR and I wouldn't give them up for any amount of money, the younger one 18 weeks has just started laying and they are friendly easy to train etc.She has laid 6 eggs in 6 days so I think that is good. The other is a week older and I think she will start laying any day.

Do your NHR's have their combs and wattles in? Mine is 18 weeks, but barely has a comb and can barely see any wattles. She seems on the small side, but then again I've never had one before. Would love to hear about yours.

Yes the one who is a week older grew them 3 weeks ago and they are getting big and red,she is the one already laying. The other started about 2 weeks ago and they are getting bigger every day.I think she will start laying any day now.

I have had all three and I would say go with the RIR's. I like the coloring of the NHR but I found them to be agressive birds. I always had problems integrating other birds with them, they were relentless. Just my 2 cents
