Okay so riddle me this. My roo has been dead for 4-5 months (I was at college I don't know the exact day). Anyway so I was cracking open an egg we collected from my hens a few days ago. I found a fertilized egg and I mean we're talking beak and all-ish it was about 5-6 days into incubation. Don't ask me how it was so far along we collect daily so idk if it was missed or buried and became un-buried, and they get refrigerated within 24 hours of collection, but anyway can anyone explain this because I've got nothing for how the egg could have been fertilized.

Well, if it was 5-6 days development (google chick development for comparison pics)
it obviously got missed on the daily collection(more than a few of them)...happens.

Where did you find it?
Do you free range?
Was it stinky rotten?
Are you positive it's a chicken egg?
Was the egg broken or intact?
Do you count your chickens when putting them up at night?....you'd miss one of it was sitting a nest in range area.

Sorry for all the Q's...am just curious and love solving a good 'riddle'.

hmmmm that is curious.

Roosters sperm is able to fertilise many eggs in a hen at once but it's typically only about 2 weeks worth. Defiantly nothing close to 4 months.
