Chick land
Ok, I have a question. My chickens all have a tiny ridge like thing growing on the tops of there beak. I havent been able to find out if this means there roos or not. Any ideas? I cant fathom that the store would have sold us all roosters. The bin was labeled, "Putnams, chicks." and somthing about them beeing breed to be layers.

Thanks for the help, were doing this for the first time so Im a little clueless. At what age will i be able to tell (and how do i tell) if there roos?

Depends on breed.

Well, what do they look like now? If you post a few pictures maybe someone can help you identify the breed then you'll have some idea about gender too. Most feed stores will sell sexed chicks. That means that they pull out all the roosters and give you only what they think are the girls. Some breeds are sex-linked and you can tell the gender by coloring or feather growth. For the others, sexing is about 90% accurate. So, you're likely to get a couple roos in the bunch.
