So, this chicken is HUGE compared to all of my other chickens of the same age. Why is it so very big? Do you guys think it is a rooster? If so, is there any way it could possibly be a cuckoo marans? I ordered barred rocks and cuckoo marans from McM hatchery. I was supposed to have a cuckoo marans rooster. The rest were all supposed to be hens. However, I think I ended up with no cuckoo marans rooster and a barred rock rooster instead. However, this monstrous chicken does not act like a rooster at all. In fact, he/she is bullied around quite a bit. My chicks are 17 weeks old. Thanks for your help! In one picture, the huge thing is standing next to what I believe to be a cuckoo marans to the right of it. Look at the size of its legs compared to the rest his age.

Looks like a BR rooster to me. Note the color difference between it and the 2 other BR beside it. BR roosters are lighter colored than hens generally, and also the difference in the comb, it has a larger comb also can't be for sure but in the first picture it looks like it has the sickle feathers of a rooster growing near its tail. You need to take a better close up picture of it from the side but even without it i'm pretty sure you've got a BR rooster there.

Barred Rock roo. First pic shows single comb, that indicates BR. The tail shot in the second pic screams roo. The other looks like Cuckoo Maran in that first pic. He's a bigun!!! BR's get fairly large so no suprise, but he's gorgeous!

That's your Maran's rooster. Look how much lighter he is than the other barred birds around him in the picture. Also, there's his size and the prominence of his comb and wattles in comparison. The white legs give him away as a Maran's not a BR.

CM roo--Mine were named Shanks and Stumps because of their gynourmo legs.

haha! I looove the name shanks! May I use it too?
So, it seems like you guys are leaning more towards my Cuckoo roo. I hope so!
So, barred rocks have yellow legs and cuckoos have white/grey?
Thanks!
