Ol, thank you. Honestly I think i have read your entire hatching thread start to finish.. so I probably know, its still nice to be told though! Lol

I know the feeling. I read everything I could before my first hatch and was still a nervous wreck. I also wasn't comfortable assisting a hatch, or messing with the eggs in any way.

You learn more and become more comfortable with each hatch. So you know what you need to do? HATCH MORE!

Lol thats ok, im already planning on adapting my 7qt crockpot into an incubator this weekend since I have to give the real one back! Hubby is usually not an enabler... but he made the mistake of telling me I could hatch as many eggs as I wanted and he would find a home for them or expand.... I dont think he knows what kind of monster he has made!

Im generally pretty confident in medical stuff, I was going to be a vet and worked alongside at a clinic for years, but chicks are just SO BREAKABLE.

Oh, also our beautiful broody Mocha is almost at day 14, I candled her eggs in the predawn Monday and they are all alive! All 12 showing veins and movement.

For all her death stare she has yet to actually peck me when I move them around and check on her, but wow does she growl!

Hubby is usually not an enabler... but he made the mistake of telling me I could hatch as many eggs as I wanted and he would find a home for them or expand.... A friend told me something similar around the end of last year. . ."We'll get land and you could raise chickens and I'll have a few goats, rabbits . . . "

When I told him how many eggs were in the incubators he said "I didn't mean RIGHT NOW!"

I asked my hubby if he was sure since I already had 12 under a hen and 24 in the incubator, he said absolutely, make as many chicks for me as you can! But im not paying for than 15$ for supplies other than the extra food. Lol

I'm telling you hit up Craigslist people are always tossing out pallets, old fence panels etc etc. Save that money for feed!

It can 24 hours for a pipped egg to hatch, during this time they are absorbing the last of the egg yolk and detaching themselves from the inside of the egg. So it's only advisable to intervene if it's been more than 24 hours.
