From what I understand he injured himself years ago and was addicted to pain pills due to it. He was never really able to kick it. So sad, what a waste of a life and talet...loved him in Taxi too.
 
Oh yeah.. those pain pills can be nasty addictive! My lil cousin got addicted when she had to have multiple shoulder sugeries... baaad news stuff!
