RIP Willow

Where to advertise though? I also like the idea of doing a swap further into new mexico so some of the NM thread can come but for now if we can get one going close by that would be awesome. Basically I was told to put the feelers to see if many people would be interested or not then come back to NE feed and officially try and arrange for something. You were right they do have a large lot behind their building kinda stinks it's out of sight though so we'd have to advertise a lot so people even knew we were back there! I'd love to get the BYC banner though! I think you and I would look awesome in a picture with it

I found out great news tonite that one of the chicks I am getting tomorrow happens to be a brother to the one that died today. Very bittersweet. I'd still rather have Willow back and maybe I'll stop crying one of these days but this has been a lesson learned the hard way for sure...

I think the electric fence is a good solution, I have used it for years with horses, I am now going to put it around my chicken run. I was told after it's installed, fold a piece of aluminum foil over it and put some peanut butter on the foil, turn the fence on and anything that bites into that won't ever do it again. Also besides charger and plastic insulators, it has to be grounded very well or won't work, especially if it's dry. I'm sure the fence or farm supply can tell you, but ground rods need to be in the wettest area possible and if it's really dry, you may need up to 3 of them. Hope that helps and sorry for your loss.

I had a dog attack 4 Pekin ducks, 2 Roosters (standard RIR and Barred Rock boy), and like 9 hens or more, only 3 hens survived the dog attack. that dog is now in doggy hell. I bet your dog that attacked the chickies of yours is there too.

I'm writing this and I can't stop crying I just walked outside to find my dog eating my most favorite silkie.

I have no idea how he got ahold of her. The run she was in looked like it had been pushed it up in the corner and created a gap he's too big to have gone in there and gotten her and she was the type to have huddled in the corner not sneak thru a crack. My fence is seven tall and solid rock and steel so I'm not sure if something else could have gotten in my fence and done this and he simply was enjoying a free snack leftover from last night. I just don't know what happened and it's killing me. My favorite dog was eating my favorite chicken. I'm just so sad now it's horrible. Does anyone know where I can get a small electric fence type hot wire setup to attach to my run to prevent this from ever happening again? I thought my chickens were safe, I was wrong
