I lost my last three hens today.

After getting home late yesterday I only poked my head outside to make sure they were in their coop, I didn't close it up. Well this morning when I went out to feed them I found three headless bodies in the backyard.

It adds insult to injury knowing the predator didn't even finish the job.

I don't know what to do now, I really don't know if I want to get more hens knowing that a predator knows where they can get a free lunch, especially after loosing all of them at once.

Yarg.

Yeah...sorry about what happened to your chickens.

Reading this will help show all of us how important it is to secure our coops each night...

Well, my gosh, you can DO something about that. Protect them more vigilently. You made it easy for that critter by not locking them up. Don't blame it on the predator.

I did that last summer. The coons got all but 4. And I did have some other young ones in another part of the coop. they were secure in the nursery. I was so mad at myself. But I have not done it since, and doubt I will do it again. I used to feel bad, especially when it is so hot in the summer, but not anymore.

Im sorry but this kind of response really bothers me.. 1 Its just rude to yell at someone who is hurting. 2 There are alot of young people on this forum and comments like that are not productive. 3 We are ALL human and make mistakes, RobotChicken made a mistake that he/she will now have to live with the rest of their lives.. The trauma of finding your beloved pets decapitated is more then enough punishment in my humble opinion...

To Robot Chicken .. I am soory for your loss .. Ever minute is a new oppurtunity to learn and grow.. I am sure you have seen what needs to be improved and what mistakes you made.. Dont let anyone make you feel worse for a "mistake" ... This is how we grow and learn..

The fact that I mention how this happened shows I know I was in error, any further comment on it is just rubbing salt in an open wound.
