Rip :(

:(Sorry for your loss!!! How traumatic!!!!

Was wondering if it would be possible to hook up an electric fencer to your run after you have shut your birds in for the night? You know, like for horse fencing? Zap your predator once or twice and it will soon learn not to bother. And a horse fencer isn't THAT expensive.

Well that was my constructive thought anyway:)

That's what I did after my dogs wiped out half my flock. My husband rigged it up for me, though, so I'm not sure about cost. So far it has worked. The dogs each tried to get in once and ever since have mostly avoided the area near my run. It also helps that I now have an adult rooster. Even when they do get close to the fence they are v-e-r-y careful because King Louis gives them the rooster stare down.

I'm very sorry for your loss, RobotChicken. I hope everything turns out okay in the end.

sorry for your loss, I can only imagine how awful. I'm sure in time, you'll get more for your coop, I couldn't imagine not having chickens in mine now.
Give yourself some time, don't be to hard on yourself. In a perfect world nothing would ever go wrong.
Take care.

I'm sorry for your loss. Sounds like a racoon, with the heads being ripped off. Those nasty critters are very good at breaking in and they tend to kill all the birds they can reach. I have kept a live trap outside the coop before when I was having coon trouble. I caught and carried off about 6 coons and some possums.

Sorry about your chickens.

If you get more, at least now you know what the weaknesses of your coop/run design are & you can remedy the problem to minimize future losses.
