RIR bully!!

I always heard they were the sweetest breed, and boy did my little Reese buck that trend :p Her behavior started up after she began laying. I always tell her, "I didn't raise you to behave this way"...I think if a bird could show a middle finger, she would :gigShe's quite the sweetheart with her peepers though! It makes a world of difference. I feel bad to have to resort to headgear, but I think it's better than some of the other alternatives.

I love barred rocks too!:love Even though they can be a little aggressive to other breeds they are sweethearts when it comes to humans! I would rather have the chicken for the friendly disposition.

Some individuals are just bullies, regardless of their breed. However, production reds (including hatchery RIRs), and red sex links, and some hatchery barred Rocks, are going to be jerks. I no longer get any of those breed types, and the flock is much better behaved.
Try separating Ms. Pushy for a week or more, away from the flock, and see if re-introducing her has a better outcome.
Rehoming a disruptive bird (with full disclosure) is another good choice sometimes.
Developing a nice flock of compatible birds can take effort, or rearrangements sometimes need to be made.

Thank you for your replies! Update; I just put Pinless peepers on Wednesday as soon as I noticed her chasing Margarita back in the coop and it's killing me inside. She's just standing there, not eating grass just king of frozen .. She did pick up some cabbage I laid down for her. A couple questions please.. How long does it take for them to adjust?
Will she be able to find the coop and nesting boxes? Will she be able to get up on the roosting bar?
Thank you so much !:barnie

Hi how is your hen now? Did the pinless peepers work? Did you keep them on her?

I ask because I'm going through the same thing, except it's my Barred Rock who is out to get my RIR. She's also aggressive to my EE.
I just put the peepers on yesterday & worked with her on eating/drinking before setting her out. But then she still went after both girls with her peepers on!!!
Anyway wondering how it worked out for you.

Hello!
This worked like a charm. She adjusted quite nicely and is just a love. Now another hen has taken over the pecking order against that same hen who got picked on! I may have to put peepers on her too. If the peepers didnt work for me I don't know what I would have done .. Maybe others have said separation from the flock? Can you try that? Good luck and keep me posted!
